The latest figures issued by South Wales Fire and Rescue show there was a total of 1o fires in dwellings in Penarth in the period from April to September 2015.
Of those, there was one “fire death”. This occurred at a detached house at 2 Hastings Close, Penarth, in August 2015 in which the victim was an 81-year-old pensioner, Mrs Pauline Hill who died from smoke inhalation. Firefighters had to wear breathing apparatus to enter the property. A verdict of accidental death was recorded at her inquest in November.
Two of the dwelling fires in Penarth occurred in homes which had no smoke detector.
The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service also attended 19 “road traffic collisions” in Penarth during the six months under review.
