Work on the Cwrt-y-Vil / Byrd Crescent Community Centre in Lower Penarth which was supposed to have been completed this month (February 2016) – has been delayed.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council says the project has been “delayed because of problems with the steel work design” – but gives no more detail than that.
The current building is a single storey building set in a corner location off Byrd Crescent . The project involves the part-demolition and rebuild of the one end of the building. The rooms in the re-built section will be re-arranged from the current layout
The £10,000 scheme was originally budgeted for 2014/15. It had been endorsed by Penarth Council in March last year but then was deferred until the 2015/16 budget year. Now it’s been further delayed .
The name Cwrt-y-Vil is derived from the ancient Cwrt-y-Vil Castle – the remains of which are in an back garden of a house at the junction of Castle Avenue and Lavernock Road.
