Thick fog has hampered the start of a major flood response exercise in Cardiff Bay today.
The exercise – being coordinated by Penarth Coastguard and the other emergency services – is called “Exercise Polygon” and is taking place on the Eastern side of the Bay – near the Dr Who Exhibition Centre, where an exclusion area has been set up.
The operation will continue all day until 16:30 this afternoon and the exclusion zone is being marked by a line of yellow buoys .
A safety vessel is patrolling the exclusion zone and all mariners are being asked to keep clear of the area and navigate at a slow speed to minimise wash
The Royal Marines are also carrying out a simultaneous training exercise in Cardiff Bay today .
