Both Penarth lifeboats were launched last night in response to reports of cries of  “Help!” somewhere in the area of Penarth Pier.

Milford Haven Coastguard had asked the lifeboats to investigate the mystery shouts. The two  boats conducted a thorough search of the pier and the wider area but could see nothing untoward.

Whilst the lifeboats searched the sea Penarth Coastguard officers combed the shoreline and pier as it grew dark.

No one was found to be in trouble and the incident has been recorded as a “false alarm with good intent”.
