A new “recipe-based” food delivery service called “The Penarth Plate” has been set up to enable busy local residents to enjoy cooking top-quality locally-sourced food without the hassle of shopping for it  – or even of having to worry about the recipes .

"Penarth Plate" customers don't need to shop or even look up a recipe and the ingredients for every dish are delivered free

The scheme stems from a collaboration between a number of local food producers and suppliers in Penarth who’ve got together to devise a unique recipe-based local food-delivery service – the first of its kind in Wales.

The new service currently features a range of 10 different meals from which customers need to select a minimum of 3 choices. There’s no charge for the actual delivery.

Amongst the range of produce on offer – and incorporated in the ready to cook recipes –  is local farmer Lisa Corbett Bailey’s well-known “Toulouse Sausages”.

Lisa says “This is a fantastic scheme which has inspired the community to work together. Old Cogan Hall Farm is a rare breeds farm in the heart of Penarth and we are delighted to be part of a venture that enables local people to eat local produce. As a result of this we already have plans to run supper clubs and local dining events”

The free recipes include dishes created by chefs Neil Fox and Sian Fox of Fox’s Deli .

Jenny Yeo, founder of  the town’s on-line  retailing community “The Merchants of Penarth” which is also a founder of the Penarth Plate scheme says “It is clear that customers want to shop locally, to know the provenance of what they are eating and even the story behind the producers.”  She says “Communities have to work together to make this dream a reality. The  enthusiasm amongst businesses in Penarth is an excellent example of this at work.”

  2. Big Davey says:

I thought it was a good idea until I realised that I have to cook the ingredients.

Why not just offer to sell the dishes ready cooked with those ingredients?

    That we get me buying.
