Tickets on the 18 existing fare-paying school-bus services in the Vale of Glamorgan are set to cost more as the council considers a proposals to consolidate and increase prices.
The Vale Council provides these fare-paying services for pupils who have homes which too close to their schools to entitle them to free school transport – the idea being to reduce the numbers of cars delivering children to schools.
However as the council’s School Transport Budget is “subject to significant challenges” – the level of charges is now being reviewed.
- Current Fares range from £0.50 to £1.40 for a single journey and £0.70 to £2.20 for a return .Now it’s proposed to standarise fares and set new rates of £1 for a single, £2 for a return journey
- Most services also offer an annual season ticket for £225 per annum (with one service charging £195 per annum). It’s now proposed to increase the charge for these season tickets to £300 a year .
