Penarth Leisure Centre had to be evacuated this morning and Penarth Firefighters were called in to investigate a fire alert indicating a possible blaze.
The alert occurred at 8.30 this morning when the centre was busy with swimmers and keep fit enthusiasts.
Under the supervision of leisure centre staff, everyone was escorted outside to safety in an echo of the serious fire which wrecked the Health Suite at the centre in February 2014 and which closed the premises for months.
A PDN eyewitness said that this time automatic indicators had shown there was again a possible fire in the re-built Sauna at the Leisure Centre.
In the event it turned out that the alert had been triggered by a “technical error” and, after the premises had been checked by the firefighters, customers were re-admitted.
