The Vale of Glamorgan Council has announced it is  terminating its contract with the care agency “Gabriel’s Care Ltd” which provides care at home for people in the eastern part of the Vale.

The council claims the company is in breach of its contract terms and the firm has been advised the contract is to terminate on May 31st 2016 and that arrangements are being made for other care companies to step-in to replace Gabriel’s Care Ltd

Meanwhile Gabriel’s is said to be “disputing”  the decision to terminate. However the council says it can still proceed with terminating the contract – even if that action is disputed – so as to ensure that “plans to safeguard vulnerable people are in place”.

The registered manager of Gabriel’s Care Ltd has been de-registered by the Welsh care watchdog the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales

The council says that those people to whom Gabriel’s has been providing care services – and who may be “anxious and upset about the changes to their care provider” are being re-assured by council staff.

The Labour-controlled Vale of Glamorgan Council says  Gabriel’s care staff  were employed on “zero hours contracts” and, because of that, it’s not been possible to “allow for continuity of carer”  ( i.e. have the same person continue to look after the client who is used to them – but under a difference care company ).

The Vale Council has not explained why it enters into commercial contracts with firms which employ staff on zero-hours contracts.

I think you will find most of the Care Companies employ workers on zero hours contracts with frequent disputes about travelling times ,conditions of service etc. They are essentially Care AGENCIES who are sub-contracted by Local Authorities to provide care for vulnerable people-the sums paid by the Authorities is also contentious as the Care Company has to vet, train, pay and supervise staff out of those funds.

As a company that has run for 11 years.
      Inflation has risen approximately 32%
Pensions, living wage, travel time, call monitoring
Training, supervisions, spot checks, review of service,
      Overheads have all increased.
But rates paid by VOG remain the same as 11 years ago!!!
These days CARE is ‘non profitable’ with a lot of responsibility.
Care is normally something people do as they do it for love not money!!
