The Mayor of Penarth Cllr Mike Cuddy has officially opened the town’s newest gift shop “Gifts @ No. 9″ on Windsor Road.
The new shop is between the Funky Monkey children’s wear shop and Griffin Books and is adjacent to the Arcade and the main bus stop on Windsor Road .
Gifts @ No. 9 is the latest venture of well-known local retailer Cathy Evans who also owns the fashion shop Ginger’s on Stanwell Road and nearby Bojangles.
She says “ I am a great advocate of promoting the town and independent shops in order to offer diversity for people to shop and be an alternative to the high volume of online shopping that is in existence today.”
The new store is at the same location as the former “Windsor’s” shop but Cathy and her team have undertaken a complete makeover of the premises with new interior decor, lighting, shelving and a bringing in a much larger range of new stock.
The popular line of Yankee Candles is being continued in “Gifts @ No.9” but is complemented with a much larger range of gifts and homewares – the majority of which are entirely new to Penarth an unobtainable anywhere else.
The manager of the new store is Sam Hurcom.
Cathy Evans says Penarth has “a wonderful array of excellent restaurants, hairdressers, beauty salons which offer a high degree of customer service but physically the public have to visit them to receive their services. You can’t receive these services online.”
She says “Fashion shops, gift shops, DIY, butchers and other commodities contend with online competition, supermarkets, click and collect, outlets and highs street discounting which makes it ever more difficult to compete, therefore I am passionate about our town and community. The public can go into our lovely independents easily and are welcomed that is worth so much to be acknowledged and recognised.”
