With just three weeks to go to Midsummer’s Day – many PDN readers will no doubt be interested to know that Christmas in Penarth this year will begin a week earlier than normal.
The Christmas Festival, Santa’s Parade and the ceremonial switching on of the Christmas Lights will be held this year on Sunday November 20th.
The ceremony is organised every year by Penarth Town Council but had to be cancelled last year at short notice because of the high winds and torrential rain .
Many families with children who had turned up for the event were l;eft with nothing to see and nowhere to shelter from the rain until enterprising local retailers Hamptons flung-open their premises to all and sundry to allow them to dry-off and for Father Christmas to make his customary visit .
When the Christmas Lights were eventually switched on – without the normal ceremony – half of them in Windsor Road didn’t work – and never did. The Christmas Lights were eventually taken down on January 24th 2016 but the Christmas Tree wasn’t removed until Thursday January 28th 2016 .
Penarth Council has also announced that this year’s Summer Festival will be held from 7th to 17th July with Carnival Day on Saturday 16th July, starting at 12pm.
