The new Prime Minister Theresa May has re-appointed Vale of Glamorgan Conservative MP Alun Cairns as Secretary of State for Wales .

Cairns received a phone call just after mid-day today and was smiling has he strode along Downing Street for his first meeting with Mrs May as PM.

Cairns had originally been  a member of David Cameron’s cabinet, having been appointed Secrertary of State for Wales in March this year when he succeeded Stephen Crabb (who resigned from the Government today) . He also became a member of the Privy Council.

He first won the Vale of Glamorgan parliamentary seat from Labour in May 2010 and was re-elected in the  2015 General Election.
