A swan which had met with an accident in Penarth Marina has been rescued and rushed to a swan rescue centre in Shepperton for treatment.

The swan population in the marina is steadily growing and local yachtsmen, marina staff and local residents all keep a careful eye on them and their cygnets.

The injured swan was discovered in the Plas St Andresse in the residential area of  Penarth Marina.

The local  Swan Rescue organisation was called and one of their experts arrived within 15 minutes to attend to the big bird.  Swans are more than capable of  looking after themselves and handling them requires experience and expertise .

The bird was quickly captured, trussed up for safety  and whisked away to the  Swan Rescue Centre in Shepperton where it will be recuperating for the next few weeks.
