Glanmor Crescent Barry where the alleged attack took place

A 63 year-old man from Penarth –  Raymond O’Connell –  has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged serious assault in a house in Barry in which a woman was badly burned.

The incident happened on Thursday August 4th at an address in Glanmor Crescent, Barry at about 21:45.

The woman who is aged 54 – was taken to the burns unit of Morriston Hospital where she is reported to be in a critical condition. Police say they believe O’Connell and the woman were known to each other . A police cordon was been set up at the address and an investigation begun.

Police are appeaking for anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the street from around 21:00 onwards is urged to contact South Wales Police via 101 quoting reference *295318 or they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

UPDATE: On Saturday August 6th Raymond O’Connell was remanded in custody at  Cardiff Magistrates’ Court and will next appear in Cardiff Crown Court.
