Hollywood star Eva Longoria has been sampling – and evidently enjoying – the cuisine at Penarth’s ‘Restaurant James Sommerin‘ on Penarth Esplanade last night .

The star of the hit American tv series “Desperate Housewives ” is filming in Penarth and South Wales for a forthcoming BBC production of Evelyn Waugh’s “Decline and Fall” .  One of the locations being used in the shoot is the Kymin in Penarth. ( See PDN http://tinyurl.com/jfpscfp ).

However it wasn’t the Kymin which captured Eva’s attention,  but – improbably – a familiar edifice in Penarth’s Windsor Road…  Blockbuster.

After dinner on the Esplanade, Eva hired a taxi for a tour of Penarth – taking in several points of interest including the former Blockbuster premises in Windsor Road. This so intrigued her, she put her mobile phone photo of the former video hire shop on Snap Chat.

Blockbuster was once a coast-to-coast brand name across the USA  but has long since disappeared. For Eva however, the sight of the classic original signage on the former Penarth branch must have been something of a “blast-from-the-past” and well worth capturing on camera for posterity .

Hope she didn’t have to spend 5 hours there for a 5 course taster as my daughter did. Table booked for 7.30 pm and finally managed to leave at 12.30 am. Service appalling.
