Penarth Cricket Club members have sportingly paid tribute to their rivals Mumbles Cricket Club – who won the Welsh Cup in a thrilling final at the Neath CC ground “The Gnoll” earlier this week.

Penarth had walked onto the pitch as favourites having won more games this season than Mumbles and gained promotion to the Premier League’s 1st Division for next season.

In the 40-over Welsh Cup Final, first Mumbles and then Penarth edged ahead – but the strong Mumbles team eventually racked up 189-5   leaving Penarth  needing less than 5 an over to win after tea.

In the end however Penarth were all out for 158 and the cup belonged to Mumbles Cricket Club – or as they call themselves – “MCC”.
