The mystery of the strange “wet patch”which appeared in the middle of Windsor Road – Penarth’s main shopping centre – appears to have been solved.

First reports of the phenomenon were received on August 5th with more following on August 7th.

Even in bright sunshine the wet patch never dried up

A number of PDN correspondents noted that the road – between Boots and Kitchener Thomas – appeared to be wet all the time – irrespective of what was (back then) the warm weather .

It was also noticed that the road glistened with moisture night and day – suggesting, to some, that the water might have been emerging from a hitherto unknown underground spring and might even be endowed with healing properties.

This weekend, at long last, Welsh Water contractors finally out around to digging a hole in Windsor Road’s pristine tarmac surface  to reveal the source as nothing more than a burst underground mains pipe .

A new section of blue plastic pipe has been installed where the original main had burst

The Welsh Water engineers were not working on the location yesterday (it was Sunday) but are expected to return today . Meanwhile the top of the four-foot-deep hole they’ve dug remains fenced off – meaning that the a couple of highly contested parking spaces will be out of use until the job is complete .
