A planning application has been made to build 9 new detached houses on the site of “The Highlands”, on Old Barry Road

A planning application has been made to demolish an existing two-storey luxury home “The Highlands” –  and its associated coach-house –  which both stand in extensive elevated grounds off Old Barry Road, Penarth.

The grounds –  including the site of the house and coach house –  would then be developed as a compact  estate of  9 two storey-four-bedroom detached houses – all with double-garages and gardens.

The new development would be served by an “extended adopted highway and new private driveway”.

Old Barry Road is one of the least-known roads in Penarth and comprises a narrow rural one-way loop off the main A4055 road between Baron’s Court and the Merrie Harrier. The site is bounded by the A 4055, Cogan Railway Station and Cogan Hill .

The application has yet to be discussed by either the Vale of Glamorgan Council or Penarth Town Council .

This is the maddest idea I have ever seen proposed to the Vale. The access is an accident waiting to happen now, never mind with more traffic! To describe this site as rural is daft, it is completely surrounded by urban development.

  2. Ivor Bagman says:

    Don’t need a car there
    Just walk down to
    Cogan station.
    If you have any
    Energy left – there’s
    A gymnasium
    In the leisure centre !
    Ideal spot for
    A massive high rise !
