All aboard! A Penarth lifeboat crew member leaps aboard as the Atlantic 85 is launched after midnight to rescue a drifting fishing boat

Fourteen members of Penarth Lifeboat’s all-volunteer crew  were called out at  20 minutes past midnight last night to launch the lifeboat for a rescue just off Cardiff Bay Barrage.

A 21 foot fishing vessel with two people on board had radioed for help after both her engines had broken down .

The big Atlantic 85 Class lifeboat was launched and towed the broken down boat into Cardiff Bay without further incident.

    It takes a great deal of dedication to get out of bed so late at night, and then rush to get dressed for a chilly autumn night on the water, or assisting colleagues.
    Such commitment and sacrifice does not go unnoticed by appreciative supporters, and the crew is to be commended.
