Two drivers were reported to have been  “shaken-up but not seriously hurt” in  a two-car crash at the junction of  Westbourne road and Augusta Road this morning.

Both vehicles sustained serious damage rendering them undrivable - but no one was injured

Police closed Westbourne Road to traffic in both directions whilst a recovery team loaded the damaged vehicles onto lorry .

The junction is a difficult one for unwary drivers who often fail to see approaching traffic on Westbourne Road  – one of the main traffic arteries from Sully into Penarth – as they emerge from Augusta Road and Raisdale Road opposite.

Absorbent material was scattered on the road to soak up spilled oil and fuel

Absorbent material was scattered on the road to soak up fluids from the two cars . The road was re-opened to normal traffic after  about an hour .

It’s accidents such as this which call into question whether the present infrastructure of Penarth can cope with increased traffic from the hundreds of new homes planned for Sully ..

  1. Paul says:

How many accidents have to happen before some speed cameras appear? This road like many others is a rat run and speeding is rife. The same cars speed past the new speed registering camera every evening and well into the early morning.

  2. snoggerdog says:

    well slipped in P.D.N.

  3. Frank Evans says:

    Just fancy that…
Local councillor complains of damage to cars by speed humps on Westbourne road.
Two cars seriously damaged in collision on Westbourne road.

  4. Ivor Bagman says:

    I love it –
    Motorists get the hump
    Cos they can’t speed .

  5. Dan Potts says:

Where is the everdence that inappropriate speed was the cause of the collision ? More likely as in similar collisions someone was not paying attention to the road ahead !

  6. Mgg says:

This doesn’t illustrate any problem with more traffic from sully. Two cars not looking properly end off

  7. Hope all ok but It is a straight road so many drivers think they can go as fast as they like…… We have complained many times and the Council say it’s a matter for the Police, the Police say it’s for the Council. I don’t even think serious injury to drivers, passengers or pedestrians will make any difference. Can only see it getting much worse when the house building starts……..!!

  8. Christopher David says:

And concerned resident should know. Of course a huge increase in traffic will up the potential accident rate. Oh yes car parking will become an even bigger problem as well.
