Despite the best of intentions , it’s often difficult to keep those Christmas surprises secret – and so it’s proved with Penarth Town Council’s possibly worst-kept secret – the Secret Snowmen.
What looked from a distance like an old settee that someone had insensitively dumped on Penarth’s iconic Clock Roundabout had been puzzling passers-by.
The appearance of the bubble-wrapped “present” deposited at the foot of one of trees had several shoppers scratching their heads until – a few moments later – all was revealed.
It turned out that the early Christmas present for Penarth was a giant electric snowman who was being tried out for size in the newly planted herbaceous beds of the roundabout.
A wiring crew connected him up to check everything was in order – but in the light of the relatively warm weather – the snowman was considerately put under wraps again until nearer the Christmas Lights Switch-On Ceremony which will be held on Sunday November 20th.
The snowman – and what are rumoured to be two similarly wintry colleagues – will be on public display, standing guard alongside the roundabout Christmas trees, over the festive season.
