Old people in the Vale of Glamorgan are now having to wait longer than before to receive “Adult Services” according to an internal council report

The Vale’s Director of Social Services has told councillors that the longer waits are the result of  implementing the Welsh Labour Government’s  “Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014”.

The new act came into effect on April 6th 2016  and the Vale Council is said to be “on the journey towards full implementation” .

The social services director reports that “good progress”  has been made in all areas  and that disruption to existing service users and carers has been minimised –  but says introducing the changes has been “very time-consuming and caused some issues in relation to managing demand.”

One direct consequence of the changes – the report says – is an increase in the waiting times for Adult Services.

The Vale Council report says the new Welsh Government Act involves making  “significant and urgent changes in Older People’s Services ”  and says it is no surprise that waiting times are being affected.
