Many people in Penarth and further afield are paying tribute on social media and elsewhere this week to Learning Disability campaigner, comedy actor and distinguished gymnast Martin Vick, who has passed away.

Martin Vick

Martin Vick

Mr Vick, who had Down’s syndrome, was a familiar ( and always cheerful)  face at his day job in Tesco, Penarth –   but was also a determined and successful gymnast and, for 15 years, a leading comedy performer at the Hijinx Academy at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff .

As an accomplished gymnast himself, Martin  he also coached dozens of other disabled athletes and  travelled the world as a Special Olympian.

Mr Vick died suddenly after suffering a stroke at the weekend.

The sheer volume of personal tributes which have already been paid to him is a testament to the huge affection with which he was regarded by many people in Penarth and the wider community .
