South Wales Police received reports of a serious assault at an address at Glanmor Crescent, Barry and found Ms Braund with 20-25% first degree burns and also second and third degree burns.
The court was told that O’Connell had deliberately poured lighter fluid onto his victim and set it alight . Doctors placed her in an “induced coma” at Morriston Hospital but she died as a result of her injuries.
Her killer has 22 previous convictions including 15 for violence – and had previously committed actual bodily harm on Ms Braund.
