The latest crime figures include an incident in which 2 door staff sustained injuries whilst ejecting a customer from Bar 44 on December 17th 2017

Theft (including shoplifting) and violent assault continue to be the most commonly committed crimes in Penarth  – according to the latest set of crime figures presented by South Wales Police to  Penarth Town Council .

The latest figures – for November and December – follow on from the crime spike which occurred in the town in September and October  (102 crimes).

In the month of November 2016 a total of 91 crimes were committed in the town including no fewer that 33 cases of violent assault – or what the police call “violence against the person”.

  • Theft (primarily shoplifting)                       31
  •  Violence Against a person                          33
  • Theft from Motor Vehicle                              3
  • Burglary other                                                  4
  • Criminal damage                                            10
  • Dwelling Burglary                                            4
  • Other Notifiable Offence                                3
  • Sexual Offence                                                  2
  • Drugs Offence                                                   1

TOTAL   NOVEMBER                                                                 91

The figures for December 2016 were:-

  • Theft (primarily shoplifting)                       26
  •  Violence Against a person                          30
  • Burglary other                                                  3
  • Criminal damage                                             7
  • Dwelling Burglary                                           4
  • Other Notifiable Offence                                1
  • Sexual Offence                                                  2
  • Drugs Offence                                                   3
  • Fraud/Forgery                                                  1
  • Theft of vehicle                                                 1

TOTAL   DECEMBER                                                               78

South Wales Police are no longer able to provide the ward-by-ward crime figures (as they were earlier last year) and are now compiling statistics using the long-obsolete  “Alexandra Ward” (comprising the old and long-disused combination of St Augustine’s and Plymouth Wards).

There are also frequent – and often illogical  – changes in the descriptions of offences which make a comparison with previous monthly figures increasingly difficult.

  1. This is obviously an out of date photograph as the Christmas lights were taken down a whole ago.

    • NewsNet says:

The crime figures reported by South Wales Police were in respect of November and December – which is why a December crime photo was used to illustrate the item.

  2. AK says:

There have been no police vehicles in Penarth town centre since to get an updated photo
