VALE COUNCIL TO BUY WELSH TRANSLATION SERVICES FROM CARDIFF COUNCIL

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is to hire Cardiff Council to translate English into Welsh. The words here on the Vale HQ should have read – in English and Welsh respectively – “Entrance” “Mynedfa”

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has now scrapped its own in-house Welsh Language translation facilities  – and instead is handing-over the job of translating its  documents to Cardiff Council.

The Vale Council has now calculated that one million, six hundred and sixty thousand words will need to be translated into Welsh every year at a cost of £133,000 a year.

The new arrangements with Cardiff Council were supposed to start in April this year – but that deadline has been missed, –  because only now has the Vale Council  actually worked out what the volume of potential translation work will be.

The total value of the contract is now so large that the council is now legally required – under European Union rules – to go through a “formal procurement exercise”.

Oh well- what’s another £133k added to the £500,000,000 the UK spends on supporting the language. Hey- couldn’t we spend that on the NHS? Would that be a better use of money? Or Build a Welsh Disney- oh we have one in the Bay 🙂 .

  4. Ben says:

That’s just the Vale’s bill…meanwhile people are homeless and stuck on stretchers in hospital corridors. Pull up the ladder!
