ANOTHER NO-SHOW FOR THE LOCAL PAPER THE ‘PENARTH TIMES’

The Penarth Times hasn’t appeared since March 16th

The local weekly newspaper the Penarth Times failed to arrive in local newsagents’ shops this morning  – the second time the normal Thursday publication of the paper has been disrupted.

One local newsagent said today no advance notice had been given to shops  that the Penarth Times would not be delivered this morning and the Newport based publishers Newsquest –  had not been in touch with them.

It’s the second time in recent weeks the Penarth Times has failed to be issued on its due publication day.The paper last failed to appear on March 9th because of what were then said to be printing problems.

Sources within the South Wales Argus in Newport – where the paper is edited and printed – said that as far as was known, today’s edition opf the Penarth Times had come off the presses on schedule – but for some reason the 4,000 printed copies which are normally dispatched to Penarth had failed to arrive.

Local newsagents have said they’ve been given to understand that today’s paper will be on sale tomorrow .

might as well get the free Barry Gem – much more relevant and better Penarth news in there 🙂

  2. The Penarth Times is 80 percent adverts anyway it should be a free paper , the publishers make more money on the adverts than the paper itself , charging for this paper is only icing on the cake .My home town we had a ‘free’ newspaper with just as many articles as the Penarth Times and we know The Gem in this area is similar . This online paper Penarth Daily News offers just as much news excluding the sports pages of the Times, and one thing this online paper does is to get debate going , if you try to do that in the Times you may as well bury your letter as that’s as far as it will go , so no debates or responses from other readers (only in exceptional cases), thank goodness for this online paper to be able to gauge local peoples responses and opinions.

Looks like it’s on it’s way out, I use to advertise in it but the readership has gone so small now it’s not worth it .Shame it use to be a great little paper years ago when it was local but not since it has been taken over and run from Newport, it’s gone awful.

Maybe they should check their own web site, or better still read PDN 🙂

Both the Penarth Times and Barry And District are now completely useless in today’s world. By the time the papers are published, the news is very old news and already been read via other multiple sources (PDN, Wales Online, Bro Radio, BBC, ITV Wales, etc). Their own Facebook pages are also very much behind with the times. I’m pretty sure we will all hear soon that at the very least the print version will be scrapped altogether. After all, Penarth and Barry’s news reporters are now based in Newport. Where’s the sense in that?! Its bound to fail. Advertisers are not spending money as the circulation is too low to justify the spend.
