Britain’s busiest lifeboat – Penarth’s D Class was launched – quickly followed by the bigger Atlantic 85.

Both Penarth lifeboats were called out this afternoon on “immediate launch” to go the rescue of a man understood to be “despondent” on the cliffs between Lavernock and Swanbridge.

The smaller D Class lifeboat was allocatezd the task of combing the water’s edge whilst the larger Altantic 85 surveyed the cliffs from further out to sea

The Coastguard helicopter was also tasked to fly to the scene –  and its understood its crew successfully pinpointed the location of the man.

The man was  found to be safe and well and was walked to safety by Penarth Coastguard officers and was taken into custody by South Wales Police.
