Penarth’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat being recovered early this morning after it and the smaller D Class lifeboat had both been launched to assist South Wales Police

Penarth Coastguard officers were also involved in the operation and carried out a search of the clifftop to  Lavernock .Both lifeboats boats returned to the slipway in the early hours of this morning.

It’s not yet clear whether this incident was connected with a police alert yesterday morning at 10:40 when the the body of a “deceased male” was reported to have been discovered  at the foot of cliffs near Southerndown in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The body has been taken to the University Hospital of Wales. Tonight (April 21st 2017) the police say the body has still not been identified.

Police say “The incident is not considered suspicious at this time” – a statement which normally indicates that no other person is thought to have been involved in the death . The Vale of Glamorgan coroner has been informed.
