Penarth Coastguard were called in today to carry out a medical evacuation from the high-speed Rigid Inflatable Boat “Phoenix” operated by Cardiff Sea Safaris.
A female passenger on board required medical attention.
The boat was brought alongside the water-taxi berth at Penarth where Penarth Coastguard officers – all of whom are qualified first-aiders – carried out a medical check prior to bringing the casualty ashore. She was then taken to the Emeergency Unit at the University Hospital at the Heath in Cardiff.
Cardiff Sea Safaris operate the regular shuttle service from Cardiff Bay to the island of Flatholm.
Today’s sea conditions were said to be “lumpy” although the strong north easterly on-shore wind has abated a little since last night’s gale.
