The funeral is to be held tomorrow (Wednesday May 10th 2017) of well-known Penarth hairdresser Dave Crompton, the proprietor of the “Cut & Styled” salon on Stanwell Road – near the clock roundabout .
Mr Crompton had been in business in Penarth for more than 40 years where he initially had a barber’s shop in Albert Road , and later established his highly successful unisex hairdressing salon in Stanwell Road.
Dave Crompton’s hairdressing skills won him several prestigious awards and his expertise was so sought-after that he was often called upon to adjudicate national competitions.
In Penarth, over the years, Dave employed and trained dozens of talented local youngsters – providing them all with an opportunity to learn their craft under his firm, but kindly, supervision, and become professionals in their own right.
One of his hobbies was horseracing, in which he was an enthusiastic expert, and – at one time – a part owner of a number of successful steeds.
Although he had been battling cancer for some time, Dave Crompton continued to work. As his illness progressed, he had to cut back on the amount of time he spent on his feet in his salon, but despite the physical effort involved, he continued to stand – as usual – to expertly cut his customers’ hair up until March this year – and never gave them the slightest indication of his medical condition.
Mr Crompton leaves his wife Fran, two sons Simon and Matthew & four grandchildren and will be much missed by his many regular customers in Penarth.
His funeral is to be held at 13.45 at St Peter’s Church, Dinas Powys tomorrow Wednesday May 10th followed by cremation at the Cardiff and Glamorgan Crematorium, Port Road East, Barry, Vale of Glamorgan CF62 9PX
The Cut & Styled salon will be closed on that day but – as Dave would have wanted – it’ll be open again as usual on Thursday May 11th .
