Both Penarth lifeboats were launched at 01:30 this morning to search the coastline for what – in the rescue business – is called a “misper” – a missing person.

The lifeboats were joined by a police helicopter with infra red heat deetecting equipment which traversed the coastline at low level.

After two hours the search was stood down with no trace of the person having been found.
