A Penarth firm, which makes innovative fashion leggings in a wide range of prints and colours, is to supply the official leggings for the Welsh Commonwealth Games Team – members of which will be competing in the Gold Coast in 2018.
The Wales Commonwealth Games Team leggings are being made to a winning design created by University of South Wales student Meghan Bentley and are being produced by a company based in Cornerswell Road Penarth with the unusual name of “The Power of Greyskull” – which is run by Kath Grimitt .
The Power of Greyskull, specialises in making funky sports and leisurewear in a special figure-hugging sports fabric, comprising 83% Polyester and 17% Spandex .
The firm supplies customers across thje UK and has built up and extensive internet order business. Greyskull’s website even includes a video giving customers clear instructions on how to measure themselves before placing their orders. It’s on https://www.thepowerofgreyskull.com .
Wales will be sending 200 athletes to the Commonwealth Games – the majority of whom will be kitted out with the Penarth-made leggings.
Games Manager Cathy Williams, said that “Team Wales is aware of the high calibre of students the University has to offer. I was keen to engage a wider audience in support of Team Wales, not just sports fans, and this was the perfect opportunity. The fact we are also producing the leggings in Wales is perfect, as Team Wales is all about the passion we have representing Wales, and this project highlights the breadth of talent we have on our doorstep.”
Student Meghan Bentley said her winning design was “inspired by the pride and passion of Wales merged together with the colours and vibrancy of the Gold Coast. ”
The owner of “The Power of Greyskull” Kath Grimmitt said “It’s been an absolute pleasure working with USW and Commonwealth Games Wales. Meghan’s design is perfect for representing the country and we’re thrilled that as a Welsh maker we were able to make them come to life.”
