BIZWATCH: “SEW LOVELY” TO OPEN NEW STUDIO ON TENNYSON ROAD

Sew Lovely in Glebe Street has been a success from the day it opened in April 2014 – now it’s expanding.

“Sew Lovely” – the busy sewing shop  based at 102 Glebe Street,  Penarth is to open a new sewing studio at Tennyson Road Penarth on August 26th.

The new studio – to be called the “Sew Lovely Makery”  will now accommodate all the popular sewing classes which are currently crammed into the Glebe Street shop.

Penarthians Carol and Conrad Bartlett are the co-proprietors of Sew Lovely

The little family-business has gone from strength to strength since it was first opened in 2014  – and now, after many months of hard work, a “beautiful new vintage-inspired sewing space and shop” is ready to open at Tennyson Road which will operate in tandem with the main shop in Glebe St.

No more-  it seems – are sewing enthusiasts called “seamstresses“,  “dressmakers” , “milliners” , “needlewomen” or even  “tailors”. The appropriate non-gender-specific collective-noun is now “sewists”.

A former flower shop and craft centre in Tennyson Road is being converted into the new sewing “Makery ” . All the shops in the Tennyson Road complex are currently being upgraded by the Vale of Glamorgan Council – which owns them

It’s at the new Tennyson Road “Makery” studio – at 15-15 Tennyson Road – that Sew Lovely’s tutors will be taking practical sewing classes in future – and where  “sewists” of all sexes can attend courses which match their skill levels.

The firm is inviting “all sewists, beginners and the experienced alike, to come and see our beautiful new vintage inspired sewing space and on-site shop”

In its first year of operations Sew Lovely won Sew Magazine’s “Best Haberdashery in Wales” title and the new development is the latest stage in the development of the enterprise

The Makery’s official open day is August 26th 2017, and it will be  welcoming guests from 12:00 noon to 16:00 hours (with complimentary tea and cake)  – when it will be  hosting free demos, including free-motion embroidery, hand and machine sewing, crochet, and patchwork.

The firm also promises that guests will have the opportunity to “chat to our amazing tutors about autumn and Christmas classes” . There will also be a wide range of fabric for sale, including bargain scrap bags with Liberty prints.

Tennyson Road is in Penarth’s “Poet’s Corner”, and is named after former poet-laureate Alfred, Lord Tennyson – although, no doubt, Sew Lovely’s classes will be hoping for a happier outcome than that of Tennyson’s fabled “sewist”  – the “The Lady of Shallot ”  .

The “Makery” is at 13 – 15 Tennyson Rd, Penarth, CF64 2RY.
