SUNSHINE, A COOL BREEZE AND A CALM SEA FOR PENARTH’S 137th ANNUAL ROWING REGATTA

Some of the formidable rowers from Monmouth School for Girls. In a closely-contested early heat a Monmouth team snatched victory by getting their bow 3 feet ahead of the runners-up

Penarth’s 137th Annual Rowing Regatta got for under way this morning with the local club’s familiar rivals taking full advantage of ideal conditions.

Teams from Wallingford, Swansea, Hereford, Monmouth Rowing Club, Monmouth School for Girls,  Monmouth School for Boys,  and of course Penarth Rowing Club were taking part in several heats prior to the finals at the end of the afternoon .

Three female crews in contention for the big pull North. Two Monmouth Haberdashers teams surge into the lead leaving a Penarth Club crew in their wake.  Conditions were ideal – but the northerly wind kept temperatures down

Just about a canvas in it…one of the Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls teams crosses the line just a few feet in the lead from a second team from the same school 

Including the heats, a total of 30 races were co-ordinated from the balcony of Penarth Yacht Club

A local firm sponsored this year’s Penarth Regatta – the 137th the annual even has been held

This year’s event was sponsored by well-known local firm garage Bernard Cody Motor Engineers of Station Approach.
