Tonight’s Christmas Evening in Penarth is being organised by Penarth’s retailers

An independent  consortium of local Penarth retailers is tonight re-launching Penarth’s Late Night Shopping Event starting at six o’clock this evening (18:00 hours) until 8 pm (20:00 hours).

Up until tonight the town’s “Late Night Shopping Evening” had been organised – with little success – by the Labour run Penarth Town Council who were so disappointed with last year’s poor turn out  they pulled the plug on it and announced in September they would no longer be organising it.

Tonight many of Penarth’s shops are staying open until 8:00 o’clock

The council’s withdrawal from the event left the field clear for local retailers to get together and organise the evening themselves – and tonight’s the night it all happens.

The aim is to create an atmosphere that all local families can enjoy and , the same time , to keep Penarth’s cash circulating in Penarth .

Retailers in Station Approach Victoria Road and Stanwell Road area also participating

Many retailers will be offering special bargains and discounts (see poster above) and by no means all the special offers are being publicised in advance – so shoppers will need to be out and about tonight to grab the best bargains.

There will face painting to keep the kids entertained and live carol singing from Pen Y Garth Choir and the Penarth Community Choir .

  1. Phil Nedin says:

The “labour controlled” Penarth Town Council shouldn’t get involved with private sector promotional activities. The Penarth Daily News should understand all about the supply and demand culture and free market forces and rejoice in the fact that the right wing economic model appears to be working?

  2. Martha says:

Fabulous event which we very much enjoyed having just returned home.
Very well done to all involved and thank you for giving such a lovely Christmassy feel to the town.

  3. John Powell says:

I don’t know about political models, but local traders can do it for themselves seems to be the motto – hundreds of shoppers, full shops, a choir, jazz band, treats instore and little stalls. We even saw very patient queues by the purple giftshop, arcade, not Socks on the roundabout, and people enjoying meeting friends and neighbours. Good on them all – BUT it must be said where were the local councillors? The AM? MP?
No town council assistance at all, so also no help with street flow, stalls assembly etc etc. IF as we heard the traders did do it themselves then they should request, and the Councils give willingly, rates rebates all around! ha ha!
Really though well done all, including everyone who made the effort to help or attend.

  4. Mike Yorke says:

I heard it was a success it just wondered if it was possible to have it over a couple of evenings so there is chance for more to attend s I know a lot of people who found mid-week difficult to attend.

Well done to the traders for getting on with it and sorting it between themselves

  5. P. Grove says:

Well done to Penarth traders, much more of a traditional evening. Could it be linked up to the Christmas lights being switched on next year.
