It’s understood that the Washington Pharmacy in Stanwell Road may be one of the local chemist’s shops in the rumoured takeover

Well placed sources say that at least two local chemists’ shops in Penarth may be about to change hands shortly major take-over deal which is understood to be imminent.

The rumoured – but not confirmed – deal  is said to have been swathed in secrecy  with staff in the shops involved allegedly being asked not to tell anyone about the changeover.

The headquarters of Pearns Phamacies is at “Pharmacy” on the corner of Windsor Road and Hickman Road – a business which is  already owned by the enterprising local firm

Three PDN sources say there is speculation that the Washington Pharmacy and Ivor Owen Chemists’ shop in Cornerswell Road may be being acquired by Pearns Pharmacies – a local company based at The Pharmacy on the corner of Windsor Road and Hickman Road.

The independently-run  Washington Pharmacy in Stanwell Road went through a major re-development and expansion some years ago and has won several pharmaceutical awards for the  innovations it has introduced and for its quality of service.

The Ivor Owen chemists’ shop in Cornerswell Road is understood to be another of the pharmacies possibly being acquired by Pearns

The Ivor Owen chemist’s shop in Cornerswell Road is one of the longest-established  chemists in the town.

There has, as yet, been no official comment from Pearns or the other two businesses allegedly involved and there is  no confirmation that a deal – if there is a deal – has definitely been done.

However one  PDN source says that change-over is expected to take place as early as April.

As long as its not offshore (tax “efficient” ?) expensive Boots! Local chemists (pharmacists) offer a better, less expensive service in my experience. Pearn’s, Ivor Owen and Washington have been very good.
