OCHO PLANS FOR FORMER PREZZO RESTAURANT ARE REVEALED

What the old Prezzo restaurant front will look like when it becomes the new Ocho Lounge in Windsor Road Penarth . Like Bar 44 Tapas next door, the windows will be open to the street in fine weather.

The Bristol company Loungers is applying for planning permission to change the frontage of the former Prezzo restaurant in 16 Windsor Road, Penarth prior to moving its  “Ocho Lounge” across the street to the new premises.

The scheme involves removing the existing full-length front windows and replacing them with timber frontage – the window panes of which can be opened to admit fresh air in warm weather – similar to those at Bar 44 Tapas next door .

Loungers say that “This not only provides an active frontage onto the street, creating vibrancy for Windsor Road, but also helps with the natural ventilation and cooling of the unit to avoid the need for mechanical cooling whenever possible.”

The upstairs area of the former Prezzo restaurant  (overlooking the existing Ocho Lounge across the road) is to be developed to accommodate 60 people. Two fire escape stairways will be installed

The expensively fitted-out first floor of  the former Prezzo restaurant is to be adapted to accommodate over 60 Ocho Lounge customers in addition to those on  the ground floor (see below)

The ground floor dining room of the former Prezzo restaurant is to undergo a makeover

At first floor level the firm proposes to “maximise the first floor level trading space”  .

So that the first floor can accommodate more than 60 customers there will be two “escape staircases” leading down to the front door area to give fire escape onto the street.

The spiral staircase in for former Prezzo restaurant is to be removed.

The existing metal spiral staircase will be replaced by a “new timber internal accommodation staircase ” between ground and first floor level.

A change of use is also proposed for the second floor level (currently A3 “residential” to provide WC accommodation and storage.

Loungers have also submitted a licensing application to serve alcohol at the former Prezzo premises from 10:00 to 23:00 Sunday to Wednesday inclusive, from 10:00 to 24:00 Thursday to Saturday inclusive, and from 10:00 to 01:00 on New Year’s Eve   .

Good luck to them. I hope they get the planning accepted. It will be interesting to see if anything goes in to the existing Ocho Lounge.

I miss Prezzo very much but this is such a good idea I could become a convert.
In my business you can never have too many “Green Rooms”
A Lounge with a Community approach.is an ideal venue for the first meeting of the Directors of Radio Marconi Penarth.
Subject to the essential requirement of balanced sensible Licensing Hours this will probably be successful.

Excellent news. I just hope that they do not replicate the heavy wooden tables and chairs.

  3. Le Compte says:

    All the best to Ocho.

  4. Jp says:

Well up to a point, but people can and do live nearby guys – open windows mean loud ro eg noise. No one who lives on a high street expects rural levels of quiet, but to my mind serving booze until midnight is just plain antisocial! I hope someone somewhere will consider famili s and others who live above the high street units!

  5. Andrew Worsley says:

As they have run the Ocho Lounge in a respectable professional way by putting a friendly and welcoming atmosphere first and foremost ,I wish them all the best in the new venture .
