Penarth lifeboat was called out after dark last night to go the aid of a teenage girl who overbalanced as she was  sitting with friends on the railings of  Penarth Esplanade and fell into the water at almost high tide.

The group she’d been chatting with ran to Penarth Yacht Club to  raise the alarm and members of the public, together with staff and members from the yacht club including an off-duty RNLI crew member picked up rescue equipment  from the lifeboat station.

The RNLI crew member entered the water, managed to get a lifejacket on the teenager and held onto her as the Penarth inshore lifeboat “Spirit of Penarth II” was launched to pick up both the casualty and her rescuer .

Penarth RNLI has publicly thanked everyone who helped with the rescue, including the staff and members at Penarth Yacht Club.
