There was a full-scale response by the emergency services tonight (Saturday November 10 2018) after it’s understood walkers discovered a dead body on the shore beneath Penarth Head .
Six police vehicles, a paramedic vehicle and a Penarth Coastguard unit rushed to the Northern Slipway near Penarth Pier – the nearest point of access to the shoreline around Penarth Head .
A police helicopter swept the shoreline from the air using heat-detecting equipment to check in case there was a second person in the vicinity.
Onlookers on Penarth Pier watched as two specialist forensic officers – wearing rubber gloves – walked along the shoreline to the location of the discovery – near the collapsed masonry of what used to be called “The Dardanelles” .
The forensic officers were followed by Penarth Coastguard officers carrying a stretcher.
A paramedic team which had been called to the scene, left the Esplanade on another assignment and no ambulance was in attendance.
More details of the incident are expected to be released later tonight or tomorrow morning.
