A choir singing Christmas carols helping to set the festive mood at last year’s retailer-organised Penarth Late Night shopping event

Tonight is “Late Night Shopping Night” in Penarth – and once again the event has been organised, not by Penarth Town Council, but by local retailers themselves.

The event begins at 17:00 and continues until 20:00 –  which one retailer conceded  wasn’t really THAT late – but was late enough for Penarth.

Amongst the attractions for customers out and about tonight will be :-

  • A Christmas Bauble Gift- Give Away
  • A Christmas Hamper trail
  • Live music at Station Approach
  • A range of special discounts and “treats” offered by local shops

It’s the second time the local shops and business have taken on the oprganisation of the event after it had languished under the management of the town council.

The  withdrawal by the council proved to be just the impetus needed for local retailers to get together and organise a  much better event  themselves.

  1. Les says:

If Penarth town council were involved they’d no doubt have to get Genero to do it as they clearly have an inability to arrange and implement anything these days…..well done to the traders for taking up the initiative.

    • Harry Parfitt says:

And if Penarth Council had arranged it, then it would have been called a waste of “taxpayers’ money”.

      • Johnp says:

It would have been if they had tried to do it!
Well done local businesses, many seem to have had a good evening.

  2. Andrew Worsley says:

    Totally agree Les.

  3. Jed says:

How does a Labour Council have to be so continuously vindictive toward small traders, and so keen to court outside and big business? I honestly just really don’t understand!
I enjoyed the event, pleasant browsing, the baubles were cool, had some fizz – we’ll done all!
